Seven individuals have been arrested by federal authorities after a weekend of intense rioting in Portland. They appeared in court on July 6 and were charged with a variety of federal crimes. They were released afterward, pending trial.
Only three of those sentenced were actually from Portland: Cody Porter, 28; Rowan Olsen, 19; and Christopher Fellini, 31. Two others were from Oregon: Taimane Jame Teo, 24, from Eugene and Andrew Steven Faulkner, 24, from Beaverton. The two remaining criminals, Gretchen Margaret Blank, 29 and Shant Singh Ahuja, 28, are from Seattle, Washington and Oceanside, California, respectively.
The arrests were conducted by U.S. Marshals, the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATFE), the Federal Protective Service, Customs and Border Protections and Homeland Security. All these law enforcement agencies are continuing their investigations, and hope to come up with more arrests in the future. Authorities say that the seven rioters were arrested for criminal acts committed between July 2 and the early morning hours of July 6.
Olsen, who gave a fake name and date of birth at the time of his arrest, allegedly used his body to keep a glass door at the Hatfield Courthouse in Downtown Portland shut. This prevented law enforcement officers inside from exiting and forced them to shatter the door in order to leave the building. After the officers left, a mortar firework was shot at the officers, detonating near them. Because of the shattered door, the officers had to use their shields and their bodies to block the doorway for approximately six hours.
Olsen was charged with disorderly conduct, failing to obey a lawful order and creating a hazard on federal property. Ahuja was caught destroying a surveillance camera outside of a federal courthouse and has been charged with destruction of federal property.
Federal officers claim that Blank used a homemade shield to assault a PPB officer while the officer was attempting to arrest another rioter. Teo, Porter, Fellini and Faulkner used high-intensity lasers to assault federal law enforcement officials. Fellini and Faulkner were also carrying weapons at the time of their arrest – the former a knife and the latter a machete. All five of them were charged with assaulting federal officers.
In a statement, the U.S. Attorney for Oregon stated that the Hatfield Federal Courthouse, where the criminals were arrested, has been repeatedly targeted by rioters, and has therefore experienced a lot of vandalism and other damages. Federal officers tasked with protecting the courthouse have even been subjected to threats to their life due to the projectiles thrown at them by the rioters.
The rioters were arrested by federal agents, therefore federal prosecutors will be handling their cases. Tung Yin, law professor at the Lewis and Clark College believes that the arresting officer will have an impact on what happens to the rioters.
Multnomah County recently had an election for district attorney, which was won by Mike Schmidt, who ran on a progressive platform. Yin believes that, if a rioter’s case falls on Schmidt’s lap, he “is going to be much more lenient.”
Schmidt, who will take over the position of DA on August 1, is already facing pressure from groups allied with the rioters to drop charges on some of the violent demonstrators.
Until that time comes, federal authorities might have to do a lot more work, as both Antifa and Black Lives Matter have decided to split their forces to maintain an almost constant assault on the city.
Larger groups of demonstrators have focused their efforts on organizing supposedly peaceful weekend demonstrations and raising funds for causes supported by either Antifa or Black Lives Matter.
Meanwhile, groups of dedicated Antifa rioters will continue to meet in Downtown Portland to cause chaos. They have done this every night since the beginning of the wave of engineered rioting. During their rioting, they have assaulted numerous law enforcement officers, destroyed private, city and federal property and engaged in other criminal acts.
On multiple nights over the Independence Day weekend, when the seven rioters were arrested, large groups of Antifa rioters assaulted the Multnomah County Justice Center. They broke courthouse windows and threw bricks, mortars, M-80 firecrackers, other fireworks and “other flammables” at officers tasked with protecting the building.
The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) have declared several of the demonstrations as riots, and have been forced to use crowd-control munitions and tear gas grenades to disperse the violent mobs.
Antifa has not ceased its operations, and the wave of engineered rioting across America continues. Learn about the highlights coming from these violent mobs at AntifaWatch.news.
