Mainstream media outlet CNN recently criticized an open-air concert in northern California attended by several hundred Christians. It has, however, not extended the same scathing rebuke toward riots held by Antifa and the Black Lives Matter movement in the state, which several Democrats attended.
The event in question, known as “Let us worship,” was a Christian concert held in Redding, California, and organized by Hold The Line, a faith-based activist group led by worship musician Sean Feucht. The event was held under the town’s iconic landmark and tourist attraction, the Sundial Bridge.
The contention here comes from local Shasta County health authorities, who asked everyone who attended the Christian music and faith event to self-quarantine for 14 days, monitor themselves for symptoms and to get themselves tested for the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19).
Authorities allege that the event, while technically legal, did not follow state guidelines because most of the participants did not follow health protocols. This includes practicing social distancing by staying at least six feet apart from each other and wearing face coverings. They further said that Feucht’s event “put our community at risk.”
Feucht says that he shared their plans to hold the concert with the Redding City Council, who then asked him to reach out to the state health department to figure out how to enforce state health guidelines, as well as to check if they required any permits. However, Feucht never heard back from them, which is why he assumed that there were no further complications and the event could continue as planned.
Listen to this episode of the Health Ranger Report, a podcast by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, as he talks about how people can avoid wearing face masks while claiming that they are using the logic of progressives in order to circumvent coronavirus mask mandates.
After facing criticism from both local and state officials and the mainstream media, Feucht quickly put out a statement on his social media account that pointed out how hypocritical it was that government leaders were quick to voice their support for many of the recent Black Lives Matter demonstrations, which were also held outdoors and also featured crowds that were not wearing masks and were not social distancing, but were then quick to condemn his concert.
“The freedom to worship God is the constitutional right of every American citizen,” Feucht wrote, “and those who exercise this right should not be unfairly targeted for criticism.”
For his part, Feucht claims that he did everything in his power to make sure that people follow health protocols without being forced to do so. Social distancing and wearing a face mask were heavily encouraged, and he even stated that his event’s organizers would be able to provide extra masks for people who did not have one. However, Feucht said that he did not force people to wear masks.
“We cannot force this on people,” he wrote in a separate post.
In response, Redding officials denied that they were consulted regarding the event and denied that they issued the proper permits for the concert to be held.
“I did not authorize the event,” said Redding mayor Adam McElvain, a Democrat. “I was unaware of the event until I saw it on the news last night and I’ve never spoken to or know the organizers of the event.”
While CNN was quick to condemn Feucht by painting his event in a negative light, they have not said a single word about how Democratic officials in the blue state have shown up to Black Lives Matter demonstrations. These individuals include Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, another Democrat, who has been photographed standing shoulder-to-shoulder with BLM demonstrators without a mask. This trend extends to articles covering the recent wave of rioting and civil unrest. When searching through the mainstream news organization’s website under the terms “Portland protest coronavirus,” the top search results are articles that allege that independent and conservative media outlets are inflating reports of violence in Portland and opinion articles warning about “creeping authoritarianism” and the increased use of “narratives of autocracy” under the Trump administration.
However, when CNN covered protests demanding that the coronavirus lockdowns end, articles depicting the protesters negatively appear, such as an article that blamed anti-lockdown protesters for an increase in COVID-19 cases in Orange County. Meanwhile, CNN does not track coronavirus cases connected to the Black Lives Matter demonstrations and the Antifa riots.
